One universe across

Driven by a single minded purpose, to wipe me from the multiverse, she cornered me on the top floor of my office building. Pointing a handgun to my head she pulled the trigger.

One universe across.

As the bullet ricocheted off the wall I ran, the earthquake had thrown off her aim. Through the window, the rubble and gouts of flame of a city falling caught my attention. My wife dead? daughter dead? I wept as she pushed me through the glass.

One universe across.

The convertible spun across the road. The canvas roof breaking my fall, driving the air from my lungs. Looking up, I saw her floating down on wings of light. She casually tore a chunk of masonry from the wall, and let it fall from outstretched fingertips.

One Universe across.

The explosion deflected the the falling bricks, a gas main ignited by a stray spark. The car protected me from the worst of it, giving me time to struggle to my feet. She touched the ground lightly, smiling, encircling my neck with pale fingers.
