Almost useful

“And it would be one thing if you were useful,” Leonard continued to whine. “But as it is you just take up space and make everybody think I’m crazy.”

“Hey, I can DO THE FRIGHTENING VOICE. That’s often helpful, isn’t it?”

The regulars glanced up briefly at the sound of the intensely denomic voice emanating from Leonard’s mouth before turning back to their newspapers and conversations. Leonard was a fixture at the Midtown Bean.

“I guess sometimes, but mostly it just makes it seem like I’m crazy.”

“You are crazy. Who puts extra sugar in their soda? Crazy people, that’s who.”

“You know what I mean…”

The table lapsed into uncomfortable silence. Leonard dropped some change on the table, attempting, as always, to leave behind his unwanted passenger. As always, it didn’t work.

Very funny, very well written sequels, Oy. Reminds me of Pratchett and Gaiman’s funnier stuff a little.

My one criticism is that it seems to move abruptly away from the situation that Robert Quick set up. The reader can’t help but want to have some clue as to how the conflict resolved itself. Even an off-handed remark during the demon’s conversation would do it.
