“Anything on the radio yet, Soldier?”

“For the last time no! And my name is Richie! We’re not in the army anymore! There’s no-one else left but us!” The commando leapt at Richie with a knife and shoved it against his throat, Richie tried grabbing the radio but was completely overpowered.

“Then that means that WE are the army,” He panted, “I’ll be the General… And you’ll be the Cadet. Understand me? Cadet?” Richie struggled to say anything with the diamond sharp knife pressing in his jugular.

“Y-Yes.” The General let go and Richie slid down the wall coughing and spluttering to the floor. He checked his neck for cuts, just a scratch or two. The General had walked to the edge of the roof to check for more zombies, presumably.

“If you’re lucky, one day I’ll promote you… To like, Major or something.” He turned around and gave the closest thing to a smile Richie had ever seen. It was a straight face. Richie stood himself up, dusting off his shirt.

“Last time I got promoted, the world ended.”
