Remembrancer

I am he who remembers what others forget
The knife in the table at the park you left
The pan in the back of your neighbor’s car
Each step along miles that once felt too far
Words that were lies, that were whispered and sung
Coats left in closets where they were hung
Jewelry misplaced and cards double dealt
I feel all that folks forget they themselves felt
Details like flakes on a sill full of snow
Vagabond dog with his tail hanging low
Secrets told and forever kept
Dreams that you dreamt on nights hardly slept
That time last year when… was it June or September?
I forget in the same instant you can remember
