“What about the research, sir?”
“Block III development of the prototype should be done when you arrive, including the multiple-suit capability that you’ve trained with. After that, the research team expect they can work with the simulation feedback and diagnostic data that you’ve given them – not as good as having you, but it will do.
Nineteen Eighty-Four is having its parts manufacture capability upgraded so that it can machine any new parts certified for field use after your departure; you’ll arrive at the facility as well-equipped as reasonably possible."
“All right, sir. What happens now?”
“First of all, you’re in the field now. Effective immediately, you are commissioned as Lieutenant First Class of the United States of Near Earth Special Operations Command. Congratulations, Lieutenant.”
We exchanged salutes.
“Next, pack your gear. Departure’s as soon as resupply is complete. Get going, and tell Hart I need to brief him too.”
“You’ll need all the help you can get, Lieutenant.”
