The Library of the Forbidden and Unknowable: The Offices

The office section differed from the library section of the Library of the Forbidden and Unknowable in that it was clean and well lit, lacking the sinister atmosphere and creaking floorboards of the rest of the building. The desk librarian and the first visitor respectively walked and strode down a long corridor, past several windowed and name-labelled doors to offices, meeting rooms, break rooms and other necessities of a workplace.

“I’m not sure if he’s available,” the desk librarian said to break the rhythmic heel clicking. “He’s usually… very busy. I don’t even know if he’s here today.”

“He is.”

The desk librarian wondered for a moment whether to clarify how capricious the Chief Librarian could be, but ended up just making a noise reminiscent of “ok.”

At the end of the corridor was a large door with a gold plaque, reading:

M. Qᴜɪʟʟᴍᴀɴ
Cʜɪᴇғ Lɪʙʀᴀʀɪᴀɴ

L. Wʀɪɢʜᴛ
Cʜɪᴇғ Lɪʙʀᴀʀɪᴀɴ’s sᴇᴄʀᴇᴛᴀʀʏ

The desk librarian walked up to the door, glanced back at the visitor, cleared her throat, and knocked.
