Silence's Voice

Everything felt as if it had been so long ago. Her blood had dried up only minutes after it had dripped to the floor and by now it had since become like ash. Part of her had become one with the earth while the rest of it had drifted into the air.

I stood here now. Here where he once stood. In my mind I could still see his and her mark stained across the floor and the invisible imprints of his feet in the floor where I was standing. It was here that he had lost- where she had died- and where I had been born. Her life was now mine and everything he’d had was now mine.

Except for his senses. Except for her voice. They had taken those things with them.

My lips opened and I cried out even though I knew that most could not hear. It didn’t matter if those people couldn’t, it only mattered if they could. My arms lifted, fingers spread, eyes opened wide.

Finally my mouth closed and my arms fell, fingers shutting. I turned and walked away, using his steps and her cold voice as my guide.

I was going home now.
