Hiding Under the Covers... Whats the point?

I was careful to close my closet door after my escape. The dim light in the corner of my room was probably enough to keep it away, but better safe than sorry. I crawled into bed, curled up under my sheets and I was about to nod off when I heard a small pop. Everything turned to black and shadows crept in along the walls. I could already see it seeping in from under the closet door. There was only one thing for me to do.

“MOM!” I screamed, right away I could hear her slippered feet shuffling down the hall. When she came in I didn’t even have a chance to explain what happened because she was already giving me her usual speech.

“I’ve told you before there is no monster in your closet. You are too old to be using a night-light,” she plucked my night light out of the socket and put it on the dresser. “Goodnight and I promise you there’s no monster,” then she left closing the door behind her.

I dove under the covers to hide but then it hit me, do I really think that my blanket can keep me safe from the monster?
