Like dragons of old
who swallowed the sun,
the Gainful Employment Dragon
consumes the best part of the day
leaving only the fat and gristle.

If only drums and firecrackers
could scare it away,
removing the gloom
that settles
and suffocates.

    Yeah, but the Gainful Employment Dragon can be defeated by the less than beautiful, Welfare Dragon.

    Either that, or you can feed the G.E.D. til he’s so overfed and tired that he falls asleep for a few months and hibernates. I’m a big fan of the feast-and-famine cycle for that great beast. Anyway, nicely written piece. I thought it could’ve been longer though, with more exploration of the character and the conflict he brings.
