The Terrible Tragedy of Henry DuMont

“Elizabeth, my love, we’re going to be rich!” Henry DuMont strutted into the den, joyful as could be. “Count Milton just gave me a raise and a big bonus for a prospective property I discovered this evening! There’s tons of food, and…” Henry paused.

Elizabeth DuMont looked upset.

“What’s wrong, sweetheart? Aren’t you happy for us? We’re moving up in society!” Henry looked hurt.

“Well, I’m happy for you, but there’s something we need to talk about…” Elizabeth hesitated. “I’m leaving you, Henry.”

“What? But I’ve been working so hard!” Henry protested, dumbstruck by the unexpected news.

“That’s the thing… You’re always at work, and I got lonely. I’ve… I’ve been seeing Count Milton on the side, for about a month. I’m sorry, Henry.” She gathered her belongings and left.

Henry was found by Count Milton the next day, dead in a mousetrap, which he’d placed directly in front of the refrigerator in the new property he’d discovered the evening before.

The cheese was still on the trap, untouched.
