There is always an odd one out. Always.
Create a character that truly is different—no posing, just genuinely unusual. Set he/she in an akward location, in a tight spot, any sticky situation. Show her/his thought process and leave us with a satisfying ending, your character knowing she/he will never belong in society as it is today, being so judgemental.
Tone can be light (actually, I’d prefer a lighter tone) or as cynical as you wish. Make me proud, my Ficly friends! You don’t have much time!
