Ficly

Horror In a Sentence

“The children splayed out behind him, he washed the blood off his knife.”

Once upon a time, I wrote quite a bit of flash fiction. I love an economy of words, packing as much punch as possible into as few words as possible. I also love dark fiction. The above single-sentence story was my first attempt at this dark economy.

The challenge is simple: In a single sentence, write the darkest, creepiest, most horrific story you can. Use as few words as possible. The darkest, shortest story wins.

Sometimes, the best horror you can write is that generated by the reader’s own imagination.
