Okay all. Since I love the challenges I’ve taken part in I thought I’d create one. Only two rules for this :
1) The character count must be exactly the maximum allotted 1024 characters by Ficly. Entries without obvious padding and formatting (to make up the excess) will count for more. :)
2) The story must feature “megabyte” in some interesting way. I thought long and hard about whether this should be a requirement or not, and in the end I thought it should because these things are supposed to be a challenge. And one of the ways to improve as a writer, is to be able to write under seemingly arbitrary contrived rules and still make it interesting. Let’s face it, isn’t that what writing most magazine articles is like?
So put your thinking caps on and see what you can come up with. If there are many entries (or any entries) I’ll select the winner based on the most interesting or unusual usage of the word megabyte (or any phonetic equivalent of it). Assuming of course the length restriction is obeyed too.
