Intro

In my memory, it’s always raining.

I used to love sitting at my desk staring out at the rain. Of course my teachers usually felt that my eyes, and my mind, would be more properly focussed on the school work in front of me, but my eyes were on the rain and my mind was off in a different world, altogether more fascinating than the one on the desk.

The sad thing is that there are, within literature and history and science and mathematics and all the other subjects they were trying to drill into me, plenty of truly amazing worlds just as fascinating as the ones I saw while staring at the rain, but these are not the sort of things they teach to schoolchildren.

Now, of course, I wish I was back enjoying those days of boredom. I would even pay more attention, anything to distract myself now that I know the truth.

And the truth is that once you’ve truly escaped into the worlds inside your head, all you’ll really want to do is find your way back home. But, for now, I’m stuck here.
