You have to wonder what drove the girl to suicide. This seems more sinister to me than a heart broken mother, almost as if Maude is, purposefully or not, neglecting some memories, and such a mechanical movement: ‘Picked the blood out.’ Freaked me out on a second reading. An excellent piece of writing.
