This is a cute story, and it is a fun twist making it from the dog’s perspective.

I would change “doctors said she would eventually go visionless” to something like “doctors said she would eventually lose her vision entirely,” or “doctors said she would eventually go completely blind, and that she’d become even more dependent on me.”
