Chapter 3: The Mean Bean
The next day Ethel and Betty returned. The two laughed and enjoyed one another’s company more than usual. This repeated day after day. Each day they seemed to consume more coffee.
One day Ethel confided in Betty, telling of the changes she’d seen in her body. Her knees didn’t hurt and her arthritic hands now moved with ease. Betty had changed too. She could now run up and down the stairs and her back was straighter. Both were ecstatic about the changes.
Then it happened. Ethel noticed Betty’s cheek begin to quiver. It looked like she was trying to wink. Then right before Ethel’s eyes Betty’s mole on her cheek disappeared. Ethel pointed and Betty touched her face. The two could not believe what had just happened. They looked around the coffee shop. People were talking and eating, unaware of what had occurred.
