Chapter 7: The Mean Bean
One day Ethel noticed Betty sitting by herself. Betty looked sad staring out the window at nothing. Ethel missed her old friend and the times they shared. She approach Betty and asked if she could sit down. Betty nodded, she, too, had missed Ethel. Their conversation was strained, but with time everything was as it had been.
Weeks passed. Then, one morning, while sharing a cup of coffee, Betty’s cheek began to quiver. Leaning forward to get a better look, Ethel watched as a mole appeared on Betty’s cheek. Betty could feel the change, and Ethel’s face confirmed what had happened. The two women openly laughed, realizing how silly they had been. Ethel told Betty she liked the mole, and thought it made her look sophisticated. It was Betty’s beauty mark.
As Ethel was speaking she noticed, behind Betty, the back door of the coffee shop open and the delivery man step in.
