Willie Returns
“Don’t be silly, girl. Where are your parents? It’s getting late and they must be worried.”
“It’s really true. Lizzie you’ve got to help me. My Aunt Ruth told me all the stories about Willie, Theresa, and the others. I don’t even know how I got here. I was at the cemetery and then Willie-”
“Oh dear,” Lizzie said. “You poor girl! I can see how you got mixed up with my Willie. He’s not running with them Lambert boys again though is he?”
Willie ran into the house, a bag of feed in his arms, his slingshot dangling from his teeth. “I’m off to feed the horses right now, Ma,” Willie said. He raced past them so fast he didn’t even notice Sarah.
“William Andrew Inman get back here!” Lizzie yelled. “Just how do you know this girl?”
“But Ma, I’ve got to feed them horses. Pa will give it to me good if I don’t do it again,” Willie said. He turned around, leaning the bag of feed on the wooden steps.
“Just wait a minute – she’s scared to death. What were you doing down by the cemetery?” Lizzie asked.
“Nothin’, Ma!”
