Hi Mr. Gabriel. The story was imported from the old ficlets site, and was part of a challenge there. (Theme : Gay Marriage) There are plenty of people in America who refuse to acknowledge gay marriage, as you may know. If a gay couple is married in Canada, or in a state where it’s legal, and then they move somewhere else, it’s quite offensive to them to be told their marriage is not recognised. So the story is written to show what it would be like for a hetero person to have their marriage dismissed because of “beliefs” which seem foolish. If it helps, you could change one or two words “woman on her arm” and " She looks at me funny" etc.. and it becomes a more obvious gay couple having their marriage dismissed.
I remember this challenge, but I don’t remember this entry.
You did a fantastic job of pointing out the insane hypocrisy of those who do not “recognize” gay marriage. I thought the story was fairly easy to understand, though it might not have been as clear without the title.
I fully support your ridicule of the ignorant bigotry of those who don’t feel gays should enjoy the same rights of marriage as heterosexuals.
I understood the gay marriage part. Changing the subject helped a little because I had thought the two of them were hetro, but thanks for clearing it up. Guess that was just me.
I love this story, and so does my girlfriend with the rock on her finger, who read this over my shoulder. Great satire, and a very clever way of presenting the argument.
Excellent! It really brings home the argument from a (very hilariously described) ethical standpoint. I’d never thought of it this way. Thanks for sharing this!
