One Mistake

The door exploded into a hundred splinters as the buckle-laden boot smashed through the frame. The orcs in the room were caught completely off guard as the mighty warrior burst forth.

Heads rolled and panic ensued as he willed his blade to maneuver around the room however he saw fit. In a few quick seconds, the combat had ended with him standing victoriously over the body of the orc leader. Finally, after so much slaying, he had found the key to the inner chamber.

Excited to at last get his hands on the treasure, he thrust the key into the massive door. He heard the ‘click’ of a trap behind him and immediately he knew that he had made a grave mistake.

He attempted to dive out of the way but he wasn’t quick enough. He reeled in agony as the javelin wounded his leg. Almost immediately after, he could feel a warmth spreading in his veins. The pain was gone and his vision was blurring.

The last thing he saw before succumbing to the poison, was the vast horde of treasure in the room beyond.
