#51 Leaving

She needs me,” Charlie whispered. “You can’t take me away from her.” He grabbed his mother’s arm. “Please, ma, don’t make me leave her.”

Think it over, son,” his mother placed her hand on his face. “We have to leave. You know we do.”

Charlie turned away, “God damn it, ma. It’s like he’s bringing a damned supernova into our lives. How can you stand by him?”

His mother didn’t say anything, so Charlie kept the point, “Dad was cheating on you yesterday, all day and all of the night and you still love him? You’re a tool, ma, and you know it!”
His mother walked to the window and stared hopelessly at the early sky.

“You know, when I married him, he said we’d run this town, that we’d be the life and soul of the place.”

“Now your life’s for rent.”

“The sky’s beautiful. Like a vanilla twilight.”

“Stop changing the subject.”

“I think you’re right, I should start defying gravity… Once, I loved him.”

“Yeah, but then he killed me, and I’m stuck haunting you.”
