Dark Road
The highway stretched into what seemed like a never-ending pathway into oblivion.
The crescent moon, shrouded in cloud, was like a great eye in the sky, its eyelid closed to the world beneath it.
On this night, a small car was making its way down the desolate highway. The couple within it were making their way towards West Virginia…
“You know what song would really go well with this scene, right now?”
“What?”
“AC/DC, Highway To Hell.”
Dominic grinned at Gemma’s remark. Only she would spend time considering the soundtrack for a car trip.
One of the many reasons he loved her.
“I’ll download it when we get there,” he said.
“Do you think Point Pleasant has wi-fi?”
“I haven’t a clue.”
It was at this moment, with the engine softly purring and the road stretching ever onwards and the subtle silence being shared comfortably between Dominic and Gemma, that the chaos began.
Blinding, omniscient light.
Screams of terror.
Unearthly mechanical humming.
