Convincing Elenore
Elenore’s face went crimson. Kathy climbed down from the table while the other patrons averted their eyes, too embarrassed to clap in support of her speech.
“Well, it’s true. I’ll make sure this baby is taken care of myself! You should get a proper divorce and child support. Lord knows he has the money. That cheatin’ son of a..”
“Kathy!” Elenore hissed.
“Well he is!”
“I’m thinking of giving the baby up for adoption.”
“What?!? No, you are keeping that baby, Elenore! You are going to squeeze every penny out of that rich bastard!”
“But I can’t raise a child on my own Kathy! I just can’t!” Tears sprang to her eyes.
“You won’t. I’m going to help you! Oh sweetie, you are a tough woman. It’s just the hormones. Don’t be scared. We are gonna do this together!”
Elenore gave a choked laugh.
“That’s the spirit! Now let’s order some food. That baby’s gotta eat! And give me that coffee, shame on you!”
The rain began to slow and the clouds to break up. The clear air blew fresh, braver thoughts into Elenore’s head.
