The Loner
She walks down the halls silently. Everyone else is talking, laughing, and gossiping as they walk with their friends. But Emily walks alone. She’s just a shadow, a ghost to others. Not really there.
She walks into her class, and sits in her seat. Third row back, next to the window. She shoves her stuff into her desk, and stares out the window. She’s early. Only a few other kids are there. Once the bell rings, kids rush in, sit down, and chat. The teacher quiets them, and class begins.
Emily takes the notes. But she’s not really paying attention. She doesn’t need to. She already knows this unit.
Emily is strange to everyone else. They aren’t sure how to label her. Nerd? Her grades are great. Goth? She loves the color black. Skater? She’s a great skate boarder. So they just call her by what’s best. Loner.
Emily has no friends. She always keeps to herself. Even when others reached out to her, she’d shut them down. But she has good reasons. Last time she let someone in her life…her heart crumbled.
