I have a different perspective on this. What I find interesting in this story is what you haven’t said. Nowhere in the story do you indicate that this couple is actually unhappy with their situation, and nowhere do you state what it is that they would rather be doing at this stage in their relationship. Not all of the dreams and expectations that we have in our youth are particularly realistic. Some are downright silly. Some become unrealistic because of the changing situations of our lives. This story is wide open.
