Meeting by Moonlight

“Mae govannen,” I crossed my fist over my heart as we met under the moonlight. “My lady, you are most beautiful.” I heard my men murmur greetings around me.

“Nae saian luume’, Kirinii.” As she smiled, even my female heart skipped beats. The moon’s white light pushed through gaps in the leaves above, causing her blonde hair to glisten beneath its pale rays.

“Lady Celebrian.”
It was always awkward meeting the lady. All were in awe of her beauty, and seeing me speak frankly with her filled any companions with a strange feeling of distrust. “It is dangerous to be in this part of the woods so late, arwenamin.”

“You know perfectly well I can look after myself,” she laughed. I smiled ruefully, then looked into her eyes. They held the ancient gaze of her mother in their oceans of blue. Suddenly they sprung from my own, looking into the woods.

I turned too late, and let out a shout as I looked up at large bloody fangs.
