Remembering to Forget
Now I remember why my mind draws a blank
When I’m sitting around with friends
Reminiscing about our terrors
And the days we wish we couldn’t remember.
Now I remember why I throw together
Self-deprecation from wherever -
Everyone laughs but they don’t realize
That’s my past silently weeping.
Now I remember why I forgot,
Why I fill my day with dreams.
I’ve put the past so far behind me
I can no longer feel my heart.
I live for the day
That I’ll want to remember.
But at this rate,
I’ll be waiting forever.
