I like this a lot. Reminds of Dave Lister on Earth, tending to a plant.
The anthropomorphising of nature, such as saying that mountains straighten their backbones, leads me to think that the narrator believes in some form of animism or gaiaism.
In addition, the use of “forefathers” and the equanimity of the ending really make me think the narrator is a native american.
It conjures up a lot of images, with just a few words. Really nice.
