Wounded pride
Josh rounded the corner and narrowly dodged another runner going the opposite direction. He loved running these trails, but they were too narrow for the amount of traffic they got.
He spied a pretty brunette running along the opposite side of the dog park. Realizing he’d spotted her in a Starbucks once, he was determined not to miss another chance to say hi.
She was fast, and catching her would be a challenge. But god, what an amazing ass.
Josh crossed the street and pushed up the hill to where the trails joined, losing sight of her in the trees. As he crested the rise, gasping and sweat barely cooling him in the languid breeze, he saw her already turning onto the main trail up to the stairs.
Rushing to catch up with her, Josh rounded a turn and came ankle to face with someone’s loose Shih Tzu. He danced frantically to avoid stepping on the beast, then tripped over the leash, launching him down the hillside. He heard the distinct sound of bone snapping as she continued up the stairs, unaware.
Damn.
