The Apolsi Crest
The Messengers know all the city’s secrets; all its lewd affairs and dark secrets from the lowest of the slum-dwellers to the gentlemen of the King’s bedchamber. They are former slaves, chosen for their beauty and intelligence, and not easily bought. They traverse the streets of Kirel with leather satchels slung across their chest, each satchel engraved with the mark of the Envoy – the Apolsi Crest.
The Apolsi Crest was designed by the first Emperor of Dania, before the coming of the Government. It is engraved into the satchels and drawn onto the heart of each Messenger, using magicks known only to the Envoy of the moment, who is now a woman by the name of Citri.
Citri is old now – she remembers a time before Government where all parcels were delivered under the Sun and not through back alleys and dark sewers. It is time, she knows, for a change to occur. It is time for the Age of Apolsi.
