The Little Outback Tree

My mother kept a garden
And in it she grew
A tree as tall as mountain tops
Her kids grew that way too

A tree from humble beginnings
From the outback I think she said
That tree had strength and character
Each autumn its leaves were shed

The leaves it shed were special
Acarpet they lay upon the ground
A golden carpet to heaven
My mother eventually found

The leaves were people she met in passing
Through lifes many halls
They made the carpet to heaven
One of the nicest things of all

Dont sweep away the leaves this fall
Just say a little prayer
Pick a leaf up from the ground
She’ll know you were there.

To listen to your plans and dreams
She needs the leaf you see
To know that you have finally found
Her little outback tree
