The Envelope Pt 3

They missed something. Those greenhorns at the station always missed something. Cats dug more thoroughly then the jerk-offs Rainford had trained. Gemi was the only one downtown that dug deep enough to find out about the bakery, but they’d never let a woman in the field. He was on his own.

“No way in hell am I paying $13 for a cupcake.” Rainford said, squinting at the rainbow-sprinkled monstrosity. “Let me talk to your manager.”

The cashier disappeared to the back. It was moments before a woman in a designer dress and floured hands burst through the doors.

“Who doth beckons me from my happy fantasy of buttercream and orange?”

Yep. Mitzy explained everything.

She looked him over, smiling. “Why, today I declare I have seen handsome!”

Rainford was sure Mitzy had seen a lot of things. Leprechauns, perhaps.

“I’m looking for something more interesting than cupcakes. Can you help me?”

She batted her lashes. “Honey, I’ll help you find anything.”

Rainford grinned. He’d stick his head in the oven first.
