Parachute
As the door slides open and the air rushes in, all of their conversation is muted. He sits there, shaking, trembling, shivering; he is petrified. She squeezes his hand tighter and smiles at him. “I’ve done this a million times,” she had said to him, “the first time I jumped I was scared too.” Her smile comforts him. They stare at each other. Two lovers a million miles above the earth.
One after the other, they all dive out of the tiny plane and into the open air. Falling quickly turns into flying; Superman had nothing on them. She swims through the air towards him. They lock hands and share a kiss; the moisture on their lips freezing, briefly locking their lips into trilled smiles. They soar through the heavens together, forever. Two angels watching over the world.
She locks eyes with him and nods. She clutches her ripcord in a wide motion, reminding him where his was. He grabs his cord and nods back. They pull. Together, they drift back to their lives. Two leaves floating on the wind.
