The Fateful Last Walk
I stepped slowly down the long white corridor, a guard at each shoulder. The sound of each foot step echoing around. I saw the people who had stuck by me to the very bitter end. Kal, David, Elizabeth, my sister Alison, even Hawking was still around despite his wish to die. I saw David step away from the wall and approach me, nodding to the guards who stepped away, leaving me and David to talk in private.
“Marcus.”
“David.”
“You ready?”
“As ready as I’ll ever be. Any chance of me worming my way out of this one?”
“No. For all the good you did, the skeletons you were hiding will erase much of that. You will be killed when you step out there. Whether by the crowd or by politicians looking to put that much deserved bullet in the back of your head.”
“Any forgiveness from your side?”
“No.”
My gaze dropped to the floor, nodding slowly. I took David’s hand, slipping him a memory stick I had hid from the guards and walked towards the door at the end of the hall, and towards my death.
