Tuition fees? £9000 a year was just too much. My family couldn’t afford that kind of money, not with Mum sick and Dad having lost his job. There was only one way to get into University, a scholarship, and those were few and far between.
Best make sure there’s not much competition then.
It was simple, Dad used to work at the Cadbury’s factory before they sold it off to that American company and started sacking people. He’d taken me along with him to see chocolate being made and I knew just how the factory was laid out.
A bit of something in the mix would sort my problems out right away.
They wouldn’t find out about it for a long time, sacking all those people made it hard for them to spot something odd in the ingredients, and I was always a bit of a whizz at chemistry. Something slow acting, something that took a while to build up in the system, something that wouldn’t kill right away.
I made it, top of the class, then again, not much competition, just rich idiots who could afford the Belgian stuff.
