It’s very Unknown Kadath meets Gaiman’s Sandman version of the 1001 nights. I love these deep worldbuilding stories, especially when me, as the reader, is given just enough detail to spur the mind into imagining all the delicate decoration for myself. The arabic sounding names adds a lot, it brings to mind finely chiselled designs on huge sandstone pillars, and the scent of jasmine in the air.
The idea of a vertical city is nice, and that it’s being constructed on top of itself lends the image that the base would be dark and treacherous, while the summit, where the Deyru’s Court lies is airy and mysterious, wrapped in cloud.
Great so far. I’d like to hear more about the piranhas in the shadows and the life in the slums.
Buy the book! (haha) I may expand, but I placed another description from my novel in the ficlyverse (http://ficly.com/stories/18732) and I loved watching a different scenario bloom from it. (Some changes have been made since that ficly though.)
Maybe the pirahnas will grow anew ?? Or maybe this will just be a case of myself proposing my views on the ficlysphere.
