The Sky Tonight
You should have seen the sky tonight.
The rains had been steady all day, rinsing out the dust and thick air. After the sun fell, the sky was so deep a blue that it would be impossible to compare it to any color. I can only describe it as being as deep as a mermaid’s dwelling place, and as rich as a romantic memory.
There were very few stars, but those that did grace the sky were ten times brighter than they ever had been; playing hide-and-seek among the clouds and laughing with a joy that was unrestrained.
The moon was out, fully dressed; letting the ruffles of her skirt drape over each cloud. She seemed innocent and coy.
I think she was looking for you. But I decided to keep you hidden for myself.
