The idea that you fall in love with someone and it doesn’t matter what body they’re in is powerful, even more so after you find out that your expectations are wrong, but the love remains.
I think this is a fine story which merits further exploration, because in an age like ours, human nature and robotics are bound to cross paths in extreme taboo-breaking ways.
I have a problem with the ending though I’m not sure it’s due to my sleep deprived state.
The last paragraph implies that she (I assume she as there is no clear indication of the speaker’s gender) somehow made Evan the way he is, probably through some custom service, but the earlier sentences suggest she is surprised by the turn of events.
You might also want to replace the apostrophe for quotation marks in the story’s very first character.
Didn’t see it before, but the last two lines do merge. Could do with a full stop after the ‘skeptically’ and then a new paragraph for the response to show it’s two different actors.
