Great tense, taut scene that is begging for a prequel to lead into it and/or a sequel to follow it. Quick correction, you have “separation” spelled correctly in the story, but not in the title.

harrowing moment! yes, I agree, buckle up and hang on tight.

I like the sense of desperation throughout, then sort of saved by his command at the last second, like there is still some hope they could survive this.
