There I said it

I thought I was good at keeping secrets, but in reality I’m just a good liar. I caught him kissing that other girl behind the bleachers. He thought I told her, but somehow I couldn’t bring myself to tell my own sister that he was cheating on her.

“You know I love you, right?” He bats his eyes.

God, he’s an even bigger asshole that I thought. She just needs to tell him, and quick. Dad’s going to be here any minute to pick us up.

“Just tell him before dad gets here.”

She glares at me, long and cold. Then she starts shuffling in those stupid high-tops again. He looks at me for help, like I’m going to end this nightmare. I hate him even more for what he’s done to her, and for putting me in this situation.

“Just say it, pookie. We knew this day would come.”

Dad’s horn breaks the tension, causing me to explode like a ticking time bomb.

“She’s pregnant.”

There, I said it. I grab her wrist and drag her to the car, wiping the tears from my eyes. Right now I hate my dad for always being on time.
