The New Guys: Pay Day

I faced off with Gustav while Flint and Jessica watched from the edge of the stage.

The old man beamed at me. “I know you probably have a lot of questions. We can answer them on the way to the Graveyard.”

Feeling started to return to my skin like it was waking up. It was the familiar needles and pins, except some of these needles and pins felt like they had been heated up on a stove and alternated between uncomfortable numbness and outright pain. All I wanted to do was go home, shower and sleep. “Look, I don’t know about you but going to graveyards isn’t my idea of fun.”

Gustav laughed, a dry, warm sound too big for his frame. “We’re not going to a graveyard, we’re going to The Graveyard- it’s a place down by the docks that caters to Strangers.”

“It’s got pizza, micro-brews and the best pinball machine on the planet.”

My stomach growled and I sighed in defeat. “You buying?”

“No, you are. But look on the bright side- you just got paid.” Gustav said handing me a folded envelope full of green bills.
