A Soldiers Story (pt. 1)
I sprinted through the trenches and jumped over sand bags. Lead and smoke engulfed the sky. All I could see is my commanding officer and the rest of my unit. I see bullets fly by and mortar rounds destroy the earth. In the distance we see heavy artillery tanks break over the horizon following atleast seven hundred Infantry men. We all stopped and stared in dis-believe. After a moment we snapped back to reality and all dove into the nearest bunker. Within thirty-seconds tanks open fire and shots rung out. I closed my eyes and thought of my son and wife. BOOM, BANG, WOOSH. After the longest ten minutes of my life had finally passed it then became dead silent. Me and the other five soldiers in my unit peaked our eyes over the ridge line. No one had survived but us. We all became frantic, some even dropped to their knees, almost crying. What was next? Sit here and die?….
