The setting combined with grammatical style evokes The Road Cormac McCarthy. I’m intrigued by the implications of the lesser intelligence and understanding in the survivors, as if there was not only a large diminishing of cultural memory, but some kind of backwards evolution as well. I would definitely be interested in seeing this narrative fleshed out a bit more. Perhaps a prequel to describe the process that led to the current condition?
I agree with serif, but I don’t think it is an evolutionary step backwards, but rather that the creatures are in shock and fear and struck dumb. I love the style.
