ATC: the envelope

You scurry outside, slowly dropping the phone to your side, careful not to close it. Opening the mailbox you see a large manila envelope fastened to the top, as was described.

With the phone between your shoulder and ear, you grab it. “You’ll need it’s contents to help you,” states the nameless voice. “Hurry, open it!”

The package is pliable. Loosening the stringed clasp, the distended paper crinkles in your hand. You lift the flap and find a gray knitted ski-mask along with various paper currencies tucked inside.

“This money was stolen from the store across the street. The police are there as we speak. They will find the thief that stole this money, but when they do – it will have been too late. The thief will have struck again. Unfortunately, the next strike will be much worse than a petty theft. Next time, lives are at stake. We can stop him before it’s too late. But remember, time is of the essence, so you have to go now!”

“…”

“I need your help, but… it’s still your choice.”
