Choices for the Chosen: Taking Sides
Blaine clapped his hands. “Look down there. It’s clear that the cops are outmatched and we don’t know when or even if anyone else is coming to help but we’re here and we can do this. I know we can.” More than a few of us, myself included, thought that Blaine was a tool when we first met him but it was this kind of earnestness that gave him our nominal leadership. “I’m going down there and see what I can do. Is anyone coming with me?”
“I am.” I said.
He looked surprised. “I don’t know if that’s a good idea, Ian. Your power-”
I cut him off. “-May come in useful.” I knew he was going to say that it wasn’t a combat power and he was right- mostly.
Roy crossed his arms. “I’ve been waiting for something like this.”
Vanessa dragged Javier away from the wall. “We’ll come too, though I’m not sure how much help we’ll be.”
Javier licked his lips and grimaced.
That left the four on the wall and Adam.
Blaine gave one last try. “Nicky? Laura? Val? Tomas?”
Each one shook their head in turn.
“Adam?”
“I’ll come.”
