Like Lemmings

The Iron Bar was full today, which was rather unusual. Moris wasn’t sure what siren’s call had summoned so many people into its dark depths. It wasn’t like the place was all that great. Moris tried to think of what the bar’s reputation might include and could only come up with negatives- dirty glasses, bitter patrons, and an atmosphere of despair. Hell, they didn’t even have any old timer’s exchanging lies about the part they played in the War.

All the new blood brought a manic energy with them. Booze was ordered, emptied and reordered, sometimes within a matter of seconds. They didn’t seem to be drinking for any purpose except to find oblivion as fast as possible. Even stranger, there was almost no conversation, just drinking.

While he patiently waited in line for a refill of whiskey and soda, Moris wondered if the newcomers knew something he didn’t. More importantly, he wondered if he should join them on their journey. Although he didn’t like people much, he didn’t want to get left behind either.
