He could hear the hoots of laughter from above as he gingerly sat down on the ledge.

“You just gonna sit there for the rest of your life?” Called out Justin.

Daffyd refused to respond. They had chased him through the entire castle grounds and he wasn’t going to waste his breath on them. That was before he felt something hit his head. Hard. Daffyd jerked his head up and saw that the two boys were throwing rocks. Where had they gotten rocks? Suddenly, his left eye exploded in pain. The boys’ laughter grew louder as he yelled in agony. The rocks kept coming.

Out of the blue, Daffyd heard a shout and a steady stream of African curses. Then, a voice called out from above.

“You alright down there?”

Daffyd looked up with his good eye and saw a tiny black-haired girl with a fierce grin on her face.

“I think so.” Daffyd replied weakly.

“Good.” The girl said and ducked her head back in. Then two new boys appeared at the window with their arms outstretched for him. Daffyd began climbing up to meet his helpers.
