Into the Nest
It took us years of tracking to get this point. I found a large warehouse at the docks that reeks of them. Too bad my brother’s working a case with Dad. Vampires are his kind of hunt.
From my sniper’s roost across the street, I notched an arrow and drew it back, the stink of the drying dead man’s blood filling my nostrils. I glanced down to the machete sheathed at my side, wishing that I didn’t have to get that up close and personal to kill these things. I let out a ragged sigh when I realized that I’ve been holding my breath the past few seconds.
I flinched a little when the door opened and almost let my arrow fly. Crap, it’s not the Alpha. Dad only wants the Alpha. I eased up on the bow and relaxed my arms and shoulders. I was about to take a swig of my energy drink when I heard a crunch in the gravel behind me. I dropped the bow and arrow and quickly drew my blade. The vamp that ambushed me caught the machete in mid-swing, ripping it from my grip.
“Hello, Ally. Someone wishes to meet you.”
