9:42 Departure
The timing couldn’t have been better. It was written in the stars, or the planets aligned, or some bullshit. However you spun it, Alice was there, standing on the platform with her blue Samsonite roller resting at her feet.
She glanced down the track to her right, honestly not sure if the train was coming from that direction or the other. It just seemed like the natural thing to do… look down the track… watch for the train…
Her hip vibrated and she ignored the cursed thing. Some damn text apologizing for everything. “Baby Im sorry” it would say. “It’ll never happen again! I promise/1” Probably sobbing into a glass while fumbling with the touchscreen.
Alice looked down the tracks again… the same way… imagining a place away from here. Far from him…
Her hand raised to the right side of the neck where it was still tender and massaged the pain, making it briefly intensify, as a reminder.
Her resolve hardened, she looked down the track again. And there was the train.
